Buoyant private label industry marks 11% growth in region
The private label industry has registered a whopping 11 per cent growth in value terms across the Middle East over the last year, which is significantly higher than a global average of 5 per cent, according to a report by The Nielsen Company – the world’s leading marketing information company.

The growth and potential of private label sector will be the main focus of the Private Label Middle East (PLME) – Dubai 2008, the fifth private label and contract manufacturing exhibition in the Middle East. The event, to be organised from October 28 to 30, 2008 at Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre, is expected to bring together exhibitors from Europe, America and Asia.

To be organised by Channels Exhibitions, the three-day exhibition specializes in research, development, design and packaging of in-house brands that are manufactured under contract for sale under private labels. The exhibition will bring together representatives from various sectors including hypermarkets, retailers, grocery chains, departmental stores, hotels, restaurant chains, airlines, duty free travel, ship chandlers, brand management companies and re-exporters.

In his comments, Mr Justin Boutros, Managing Director of Channels Exhibitions, said: “The Private Label Middle East exhibition will provide an ideal platform for representatives from all sectors to explore business avenues in the heart of the Middle East’s retail and manufacturing sector. The show will play a pivotal contribution in the immense growth of the regional private label industry by providing various members of the trade channel including hypermarkets, supermarkets, distributors a unique opportunity to meet with world-class manufacturers of FMCG food and non-food products.”

He added: “Private label sales in the Middle East are growing at nearly double the rate of branded counterparts. The whole region is reliant on imports with over 90 per cent of food and non-food related products imported. Given this scenario, PLME-Dubai is the ideal channel for buyers and decision makers from the region to come together and forge partnerships. The strategic location of Dubai makes it an ideal melting pot for those in search of new territories and business opportunities in the industry.”

The exhibition will also host national pavilions from Germany, Turkey, Italy along with manufacturer groups from Croatia, Saudi and Bulgaria.
