Bus crash kills at least 40 in Mexico

ALBAWABA - At least 41 people were killed in a traffic accident involving a bus in southern Mexico, Reuters reported citing the government of Tabasco state.

The statement further read that the crash happened early Saturday morning, adding that "recovery work" was still ongoing. The bus was carrying 48 passengers.

Authorities in Mexico further explained that the accident happened when the bus collided with a truck, resulting in the deaths of 38 people in addition to two of the drivers and the driver of the truck.

"We are very sorry for the accident that occurred this morning. We are coordinating with federal and Campeche authorities for the required attention." Javier May, the governor of the state of Tabasco posted, on X.

Bus operator Tours Acosta posted on Facebook that it was "profoundly sorry about what happened." An investigation to determine the cause of the accident and whether the bus was over the speed limit is underway by authorities in Mexico.
