Al-Iraq newspaper said the winner of Tuesday's US elections, whether it be the Republican George Bush or Democrat Al Gore, will be worse for Baghdad than the previous two presidents.
"What do the US presidential elections matter to us? The next resident of the White House, Bush or Gore, will be worse for Iraq" than the incumbent Bill Clinton and his predecessor George Bush senior, the official daily said.
"Whichever it is, he will show more hostility towards Iraq and grow closer to the Zionist entity," Al-Iraq charged, referring to Israel.
"The US presidential elections are a joke. The choice of the Americans is known in advance. The winner will be the one who better serves the interests of US multinationals," it said.
Al-Iraq predicted "the winner will probably be Bush's son."
During his own term as US president, Bush senior led an international coalition that expelled Iraqi forces from Kuwait after a seven-month occupation in the 1991 Gulf War.
"Bush's victory will not be due to his popularity but to the hostility of the Americans, and in particular of the minorities, to the Democrat candidate," the paper said -- BAGHDAD (AFP)
