Local Sports, Media and Entertainment practice, The Rights Lawyers, attend along with the world's sports community gathering in Singapore for the announcement, on 6 July, of who shall host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.  As we now know, London beat Paris and New York to the line and will be the host in 2012.

Mark Hill, Managing Partner and Founder of The Rights Lawyers, says “It is such an exciting time for the world's sports community to have gathered in Singapore for the host city announcement.  For us, it's also an opportunity to rub shoulders with leaders from the business of sport from around the world.”  Invited to attend The International Academy of Sports Law Practitioners & Executives (ASPE), Hill attended the conference as the only representative from the UAE.  “We had delegates there from 17 countries but including, I'm pleased to say, four from the Middle East, namely myself from the UAE, a couple from the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee and one from the Qatar National Olympic Committee.  This is the first time the conference has ever had representation from the Middle East and, to my mind, is a great indication of the way that the world of sports is beginning to take off in the Middle East.”

Commenting on the development of the sports industry in the Middle East, Hill went on to say “One of the nicest things about my attendance in Singapore is how eager everyone that I met was to find out about what was going on in Dubai, the UAE and the Middle East generally.  The word is definitely getting out and I hope very much that we will be able to bring the ASPE Business of Sport and the Law Conference to Dubai next year.  Watch this space!”.
