Businesses Launch Holiday Promotion to Spur Sales

Businesses throughout the UAE are launching Ramadan programs to help spur sales. A group of local electronic retailers launched the "Ramadan Electronic Surprises" promotional program called "Win What You Buy," wrote Al-Ittihad newspaper. This program accompanies the "Giving Month'' and the "Spring Celebrations'' campaign, which begins December 7. The "Ramadan Electronic Surprises" scheme consists of offering a coupon to each shopper who spends more than Dh 200 at an electronics store. The coupon holder is eligible to participate in a draw for a purchase package equivalent to the amount of money that was spent up to Dh 10,000. The "Win What You Buy" campaign includes a draw each Monday and Friday during the festival period, which lasts from December 8 until January 21. Approximately 250 local electronic stores are participating in this program, which is estimated to generate up to Dh 3.5 billion in sales, compared to Dh 3 billion during last year's Month of Ramadan. (Dh3.67=$1). Meanwhile, Sharjah has launched a Ramadan promotional campaign, "Welcome Ramadan,'' which is attracting increasing numbers of shoppers. Some 2,000 stores in Sharjah and another 370 shops in the Al-Dheed, Khourfakkan and Kalbaa regions are participating. Many other stores have applied and are awaiting their approval.
