ALBAWABA - Turkish local media revealed that Ankara has sent a warship to a NATO and EU member country for the first time in its history.
TRT reported that Turkey exported an Offshore Patrol Vessel, CAM Roman, a Turkish-built warship under a landmark deal, to Romania, President Erdogan announced.
This announcement highlights Turkey's growing defence capabilities, TRT confirmed in its Saturday report, adding that Erdogan made the statement during a ceremony in Istanbul.
The Turkish leader said, "With the sales agreement we signed with Romania, Türkiye exports a warship to a NATO and EU member country for the first time in its history."
The president added Turkey created over 140 naval platforms for various regions around the world and described the country's military shipbuilding sector as experiencing "the most intensive and productive days" in the 103-year history of the country.
"Turkey's aim is not to generate tensions in our region, but to strengthen peace, justice, tranquillity, and stability," Erdogan noted.
The ship's capabilities:
* 76 mm naval gun (Turkey's first exported indigenous naval gun)
* Anti-ship missiles
* Surface-to-air missile capability
* Close-in weapon system (CIWS)
* Anti-submarine warfare systems
* Helicopter and UAV operating facilities
