Cannes Film Festival organizers announced a management shake-up Wednesday, sharing out the festival director's job between two appointees and naming Veronique Cayla as general director and Thierry Fremaux as artistic director.

Cayla, a member of the CSA, France's broadcasting authority, and Fremaux, director of the Lumiere Institute in Lyon, will work under festival president Gilles Jacob who assumed his present duties last May.

Jacob, who was previously festival director, had originally named Olivier Barrot, a journalist and television producer, to succeed him but the decision was scrapped after Barrot left the organizing team in April after just four months as artistic director.

Cayla will assume administrative responsibilities while Fremaaux will be charged with selection films for the annual May festival, Jacob told AFP – AFP.
