Canon Middle East, a world-leading innovator and provider of imaging solutions for businesses and consumers, has reaffirmed its commitment to continue its practice of purchasing environmentally conscious parts and raw materials that make Canon's products friendly to the environment, as the company commemorates Earth Day today (Thursday, April 22, 2010). Canon further revealed that it has witnessed an increasing demand for its eco-friendly products, even as a Cone Consumer Survey showed that 44 per cent of consumers claim that their "green spending" habits remain unchanged despite the global economic challenges.

Dubbed as the "Green procurement" program, Canon implements a strict set of criteria for origin of the pulp, the paper products and the suppliers of its copying and printing paper and packaging materials, enabling the company to reduce the use of resources and minimise the production of waste. Canon pointed out that the initiative also has significant economic impact as it helps expand the green market by encouraging suppliers to comply with green certification systems in manufacturing their products.

Mai Youssef, Corporate Communications Manager at Canon Middle, Canon, said: "Canon constantly takes proactive action in promoting environmental sustainability across all areas of our business organisation. We are very serious in dealing with the impact of our operations on the environment, particularly

In terms of reducing energy use, conserving resources, and eliminating hazardous substances in the procurement of raw materials, parts, and other commercially available products. To commemorate Earth Day, Canon is proud to reaffirm its commitment to the environment and continue our focus on contributing towards sustainable development."
