At least eight members of the Syrian security forces were killed in a car bomb attack near a police station in the Jubar district of Damascus, AFP reported.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition-aligned watchdog, said the explosion appeared to have been carried out by the al-Nusra Front, although this wasn't confirmed immediately.

“At least eight regime forces were killed, and a number of civilians injured, after a large explosion caused by a car bomb hit the Jubar neighborhood near a police station,” Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

Fighting is ongoing between rebels and forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad in the Jubar district of the Syrian capital, which has been targeted in air strikes and mortar attacks in recent months.
