A car bomb exploded near a Syrian army checkpoint in the Sayeda Zeinab area south of Damascus on Monday, Lebanese group Hezbollah's Al Manar television reported.

British-based monitoring group the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said an explosive device had hit the area, and reported that there were casualties, but did not say how many.
