The Lebanese army discovered Thursday a car rigged with 20 kilos of explosives in the northeastern village of Ain al-Shaab, a security source said.
According to the source, a black Kia with a fake Lebanese license plate was spotted near a road in the village, which lies about one kilometer from the restive town of Arsal.
Upon inspection, the Lebanese army discovered that the car was rigged.
Soldiers are currently working on dismantling the explosives.
The car was parked in a remote area near the only road that links Ain al-Shaab to Arsal. Investigators are trying to reveal the identity of the car's owner.
The army has come under repeated attack by Islamist militants in the area of Arsal, on Lebanon's northeastern border with Syria, since the outbreak of the neighboring war.
Militants last month ambushed an army convoy on the outskirts of Ras Baalbek, north of Arsal, killing six soldiers.
The discovery comes a day after army chief Gen. Jean Kahwagi visited troops in Arsal and its outskirts, warning them to prepare for more attacks.
ISIS and Nusra Front militants meanwhile continue to hold 25 soldiers and police captive on Arsal's outskirts, more than five months after abducting them during a five-day battle in the town.
