At least 45 people have been killed in a car bombing in a mostly Shia area in Baghdad, a security official said Thursday.

Forty-nine people have been injured in the explosion in Baghdad's south-western district of Bayaa, the spokesman for the city's security agency added in a statement.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack yet.

US-backed Iraqi forces are fighting to dislodge Daesh from its key stronghold of Mosul in northern Iraq.
