Israeli police has warned of "a new crime phenomenon," with the alarming rise of carjacking, Jerusalem Post reported Wednesday.
The daily quoted Police spokesman Ofer Sion as saying there are about 10 carjacking attempts a month.
Referring to the latest incident, the official said "three men approached a motorist at Kehilat Zion Beach in Herzliya and asked for a cigarette. They then got in the car, and one struggled with the driver to take his keys. The motorist resisted, and the three men fled".
According to the paper, two carjacking accidents took place last week on the same day: Meir Shahori, 61, was driving in Tel Aviv on Friday night. When he stopped at a traffic light, assailants approached the car, threw him into the street, and drove off. Shahori sustained a fractured hand.
Also in Tel Aviv on the same night a man was attacked while getting into his car. A struggle ensued and the motorist was stabbed and injured lightly. The assailants fled, said the paper - Albawaba.com
