Cuban President Fidel Castro left Malaysia for Qatar on Sunday, ending a three-day state visit to Kuala Lumpur that ushered in closer ties between the two countries.

Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, whom Castro described as a "fellow rebel," was at Kuala Lumpur International Airport to see the Cuban leader off, said Reuters.

Bernama did not say where the plane was taking Castro, but Malaysia's Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that the Cuban leader was leaving for Qatar.

Malaysia was the third leg of a tour which has already taken him to Algeria and Iran.

During the tour, Castro has praised the role of countries he sees as having stood up to the "neo-colonialism" of the United States – Albawaba.com
