Arab gender experts announced Friday the completion of the first Arab Women’s Development Report, detailing women’s participation in the regional economy and development, The Daily Star reported.
Compiled by the independent Tunis-based Center of Arab Women for Training and Research (CAWTAR), the report was produced to spur NGOs and governments to initiate gender-sensitive development programs, the Dubai-based paper said.
The report was funded by the Arab Gulf Program for United Nations Development Organizations (AGFUND) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Following the format of the 1999 UNDP Human Development Report, the document, which was officially launched at a news conference at UN House Friday, will tackle a different theme each year.
Next year’s theme will be adolescent Arab females – Albawaba.com
