Cement Exports to Palestinian Territories Down by a Third

The Jordanian cement exports to the Palestinian territories dwindled by around 33 percent during the first 10 months of this year compared to the same period of 1999, and the trend is expected to continue, the Jordan Times reported Wednesday.

Figures obtained from the Department of Statistics show that cement exports to the Palestinian market dropped to JD4.3 million for the period January to October, down from JD6.4 million a year ago, the paper said.

The Jordan Cement Factories Company (JCFC) blamed the decline on stringent Israeli security measures which hampered the flow of cement to the Palestinian self-rule areas, and which were beefed up since the outbreak of the Palestinian-Israeli confrontations at the end of September -- Albawaba.com
