Centennial, The Canadian University of Dubai announces winners of the First CUD Annual Science Competition
Total value of cash prizes in two categories amounts to Dh90,000
Centennial, The Canadian University of Dubai (CUD), a subsidiary of Emirates Investment and Development Company PSC (Emivest), partnered with the UAE Ministry of Education to launch the First Annual Science Competition. The contest theme for 2007 was ‘Environment and Health’ and it was open to Grade 11- 13 students.
Dr Karim Chelli, Vice President of CUD, said: “We want to give creative students a chance to help guide the future of our community. The contest opens a door for students to contribute in the progress and the development of our society. We have decided to hold the science contest annually for all UAE scholars who are outstanding in their institutions for their achievements and contributions towards the broader community. The competition aims to recognise students for demonstrating exceptional ability in the study and research of environment and health.”
The contest had two categories. In both, scholars could compete individually, or in groups of up to three members. The contestants were asked to select a topic relevant to the theme of the competition and submit their entries in the form of research papers or documentaries in film, DVD or video format.

Ten finalists from both categories will present their papers or documentaries, along with a 10-minute power point presentation to a panel of judges on June 14th. Winners will be announced the same day. The awards ceremony will be held in CUD’s theatre, behind Shangri La Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road.

The prizes to be awarded for each of the two categories are: First Prize: Dh20,000; Second Prize: 15,000; Third Prize: 10,000.
