Children of the “Lebanese Autism Society” manifest great talents

Under the patronage and presence of His Excellency, the Minister of Social Affairs, Dr. Salim Sayegh, and as part of Alfa's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program, "Alfa 4-life", a special artistic competition and exhibition was organized for challenged children of the Lebanese Autism Society (LAS) on Thursday, December 2, 2010 in Music Hall, Starco Center Beirut. Organized, under the name "Each, has his own way of communication," the event aimed at raising awareness about autism in the society, showing that autistic children can demonstrate great talents when given the needed support and help.

The event was attended by Alfa CEO and Chairman, Mr. Marwan Hayek, ambassadors and diplomats, as well as a large number of guests, and representatives from the civil society, and members of the media.

Hayek stressed the importance of this event, which targets to develop the communication abilities of the LAS children, thus deepening their social integration and assisting in building a better future for them. In his speech, Mr. Hayek said: "Today, we gather to honor achievements of the children of the Lebanese Autism Society, who have demonstrated distinguished talent, proving to all of us, that with a little assistance, autistic children can manifest great abilities."

Mr. Hayek added: "We aim to expand our four-year, "Alfa 4 –Life" Program into a comprehensive practice in the Lebanese society, addressing not only, children in communication need, but also other components of the Lebanese society."

The event was presented by TV presenter, Tony Baroud, in a personal initiative from his side, encouraging the LAS children and supporting the humanitarian aspects of the event. During the gathering, a jury of professionals chose winners among the LAS children who sculpted the most beautiful figurines from the two age categories; the Jury also selected one LAS child-winner whose figurine will act as the LAS mascot for 2011. The event also featured presentations on autism as well as workshops that were organized for the LAS children in the past few months for the production of the figurines, under the supervision of special and professional trainers.

After Sayegh and Hayek distributed trophies to all winners, the event concluded with very special moments where singer, Ghassan Saliba sang "We Are the World," song written by famous poet and composer, the late Mansour Al-Rahbani, and composed by Assi Al-Rahbani.
