In cooperation with, and sponsorship of, the American Embassy in Amman, Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, and the American Ambassador to Amman, Stephen Beecroft inaugurated a new children playground at the Hashemite Park in Sahab district.

In his welcoming speech, Maani stressed on the importance of the social and cultural roles in local communities' development, pointing out that the mutual cooperation between the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) and the USA Embassy coincides with the Kingdom’s celebration of the 10th anniversary of King Abdullah II's accession to the throne, and the 60th anniversary of the Jordanian-American relations, in addition to the centennial of the Municipal Council of Amman.

Beecroft, on his part, emphasized on the true friendship and cooperation between the United States of America & the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and expressed his hope that the new playground will contribute to creating a beautiful and child-friendly environment that meets the needs of the local community.

The foundation of this park is part of the joint voluntary project between the US Embassy and GAM. The Embassy provided the park with a set of playground equipment such as slides, swings and others, in addition to some tools and equipment to hold entertainment activities for children, as well as awareness programs for the local community in the district in general.

Head of Sahab local committee, Abdullah Abu Zaid, attended the inauguration ceremony, along with 150 children representing the Children Municipal Council, "Arts for All" program, and the schools of the area.

In October 2009, The American Embassy, with the participation of the American Ambassador and some of the Embassy's employees, organized an environmental voluntary open day which included planting trees and painting the park's benches.
