Highlighting the need to support humanitarian activities and health care for children with special needs, Dubai World companies DP World’s UAE Region and Dubai Security Services (DSS) presented cheques to Rashid Paediatric Therapy Center and Dubai Center for Special Needs.
The substantial financial contribution was made during the recent visit to the centers by a joint delegation from DP World - UAE, the local arm of DP World, the global marine terminal operators, and DSS, the Dubai World’s security solutions provider. The delegation toured both the centers and attended a detailed presentation of their activities.
Rashid Paediatric Therapy Center and Dubai Center for Special Needs provide treatment and care for mentally and physically challenged children. The two centers are also focused on creating a natural environment for the children that would ensure the development of their abilities to function, learn and consequently be more involved in the society as active, ambitious and independent individuals.
Mr. Iqbal Khoory, Vice President - Global Procurement, DP World, said: “Our decision to support the centers stems from DP World’s commitment to community development. This is our contribution to the centers, so that they can provide better care to these special children, help them overcome their handicap, and participate in the building of the society.”
Mr. Mahmood Amin, Chief Executive Officer, DSS, said the donation was one way of showing DSS’s eagerness to play an essential role in the welfare of society. “We are keen on building a healthy society. Rashid Paediatric Therapy Center and Dubai Center for Special Needs are engaged in this noble activity and have already proved their distinction throughout the UAE. By supporting them, we are also becoming part of this endeavour,” he added.
Maryam Othman, Director of Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre, appreciated the support extended by both the Dubai World companies, and said: “Rashid Centre has been offering its services to hundreds of children of all nationalities since its establishment in 1994. We are grateful to DP World and DSS for their donation and encouragement of our efforts to help bring children with special needs to the forefront of the society.”
Dr. Abdullah Al Khayyat, Chairman of Dubai Centre for Special Needs, said: “Since the early eighties, Dubai Centre for Special Needs has had a genuine concern for the welfare of society, and consequently devoted itself to the provision of all requirements of people with special needs. Our aim is to enhance their level of potential, and prepare them for a decent life. We are extremely pleased with the support we got from DP World and DSS, and hope that this kind of support and co-operation would continue to ensure a better future for the children.”
