CIA and Mossad directors head to Qatar for Gaza ceasefire talks

ALBAWABA - CIA Director William Burns and Mossad Director David Barnea will be heading to Doha, Qatar on Wednesday to discuss the latest proposed ceasefire deal.

Burns is due to meet with Qatar's Prime Minister, the director of the Israeli Mossad, and the head of Egypt's intelligence service in an effort to advance the plan that might result in the release of 120 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza put an end to the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza.

Barnea visited Doha on Friday where he held talks with mediators in Qatar, where the latest ceasefire proposal was discussed, in addition to an anticipated hostage swap deal. 

Following Barnea's visit, a PM office spokesperson that Israel will be sending a delegation to the Qatari capital. Mediation talks are also expected to be held in Egypt later this week.

An official spoke to AFP on condition of anonymity, saying that the discussions in Doha mainly revolved around securing a long-term peace in Gaza. A Palestinian source stated that Egyptian mediators will be taking part in Doha meetings.

"Indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel will resume in the presence of American, Qatari, and Egyptian mediators," the source added.

Hamas has been accusing Israel of obstructing the ceasefire talks, as hundreds of thousands of Gazans continue to be forcibly displaced and targeted deliberately.

The Israeli military ordered evacuations ahead of the raids, but Palestinians say no one feels secure. Most of the 2.3 million people have been forcibly displaced several times, where hundreds of thousands of people are crowded into scorching tent camps.

In the early stages of the aggression, Israel ordered the evacuation of northern Gaza, and most residents have been unable to return since. However, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians continue to live in shelters or abandoned houses.

Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel

Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.

Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip and captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.

In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
