Arabic news sources are reporting that there are ongoing clashes in the northern Jordanian city of Irbid between police and armed assailants.

According to sources, special forces were on a mission to arrest a group of people at Mokhayyam, a Palestinian refugee camp in Irbid. While forces moved in, gunfire broke out.

The fighting is mostly contained to the Hanina neighborhood. Parts of Irbid are closed down as more Jordanian forces arrive to the area.

According to Ammannet, there are reports of a car filled with explosives.

Two police officers have been critically wounded and transported to a nearby hospital.
