ALBAWABA - An investigation by CNN revealed that Israeli forces fired on a United Nations convoy carrying vital food supplies in central Gaza on February 5, before ultimately blocking the trucks from progressing to the northern part of the territory, where Palestinians are on the verge of famine.
CNN has received communications between the UN and the Israeli military indicating that the convoy's route was agreed upon by both parties prior to the strike that led to damaging the convoy.
According to an internal incident report created by UNRWA, the major UN assistance agency in Gaza, and obtained by CNN, the truck was one of ten in a convoy that was stopped at an IDF holding position when it was fired on.
Juliette Touma, global director of communications for UNRWA, told CNN "A convoy that had food on it, heading to the northern parts of the Gaza Strip. That convoy on its way in what we call the middle areas, it got hit. One of the trucks carrying supplies was hit by Israeli naval fire,".
Following the strike on February 5, UNRWA decided to suspend delivering convoys to northern Gaza. The last time the agency was able to supply food north of Wadi Gaza was on January 23.
The United Nations estimates that 300,000 people continue to live in northern Gaza with no help. According to the UN, acute malnutrition has already been found in 16.2% of the children, which is above the critical threshold.
Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel
Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.
Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip and captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.
In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
The latest statistics by the Ministry of Health in Gaza revealed that the death toll from Israeli brutal pounding on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has soared to 29,313 people, with more than 69,333 injuries.
Since then, approximately 85% of Gazans have been displaced, all of whom are suffering from severe food insecurity, and the healthcare system has collapsed. Hundreds of thousands of people lack shelter, and aid trucks are entering the area at a lower rate than before the conflict began.
