Police in Iquique, Chile, confirmed the deaths of 28 prisoners Monday from a fire that broke out during a riot following an apparent jailbreak, the Cable News Network reported.
The network quoted officials as saying another 150 inmates were injured.
The blaze began when prisoners set mattresses and blankets on fire, a government official told CNN. The same source said the situation was under control.
Iquique is located about 600 miles north of Santiago -- WASHINGTON (Reuters)
