Turkish coastguard vessels were searching Tuesday for two people missing after a ship sank off northern Cyprus.

Anadolu news agency quoted coastguard authorities as saying the 900 ton Dolphin 2 sank for "unknown reasons" about 15 miles off the Karpaz peninsula Monday night.

Coastguard ships and helicopters rescued 24 people soon after the ship went down and were searching Tuesday for two others.

The ship was sailing from the Turkish port of Mersin to the Turkish Cypriot port of Famagusta. (Albawaba.com)
