The commander of the United States forces in the Gulf, who would lead any invasion of Iraq, is set to hold talks on Iraq with high-level Turkish military officers in Ankara next week, a US source said in Ankara on Friday.
General Franks, tipped by the New York Times as a possible "governor" for Iraq if US forces take charge of the country after overthrowing Saddam Hussein, will meet with Turkish chief-of-staff general Hilmi Ozkok and other senior officers on Monday, according to the AFP.
Franks, on a tour of the Middle East, has already visited Jordan and Yemen. (Albawaba.com)
