Delegates from the Family Development Foundation (FDF), an Abu Dhabi-based organization dedicated to developing and supporting family life in the UAE, recently visited national community centres for the elderly in order to introduce the conference and explain its objectives to both workers and residents. The visits were organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs.
H.E. Aminah Omair Bin Yousef, Managing Director of FDF said that the visits were designed to have hands-on understanding of the services offered at these centers, in both social and health fields. They were also meant to have in-depth understanding of the main challenges faced by the elderly at these centers in order to seek solutions for them during the conference.
These activities were organized as part of the preparations for “Abu Dhabi Aging Conference 2008” due to be held at The Emirates Palace Hotel under the patronage of H.H. Lt. Gen. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and will be chaired by H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak.
In addition, FDF delegates highlighted the duties and goals of the foundation, which mainly focused on serving the national families. The scope of the conference was also explained as a social gesture to say thank you to the elderly for their contributions to the UAE throughout their lives.
H.E Aminah Omair Bin Yousif also praised the distinguished level of health, welfare and social services offered at these centers by both administrations and medical staff. Community Centers for the elderly in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah were visited.
Among other objectives, the “Abu Dhabi Aging Conference 2008” will reiterate the importance of taking care of the elderly, as encouraged by both the Islamic faith and local traditions. The conference will also highlight the best ways to serve them and reintegrate them in the society.
