ALBAWABA - Iranian state television broadcast footage of a simulated nuclear explosion in a city center during its 3:00 a.m. news bulletin on Wednesday, while simultaneously airing an economic news report. This move sparked widespread questions on social media.

The footage showed a massive explosion resembling a nuclear blast, followed by the message "Condolences to the city of Bandar Abbas." This comes amid U.S. attacks targeting several areas and cities in southern Iran.

The Iranian Broadcasting Corporation (IRIB) has yet to issue any official explanation regarding the reason for airing the footage or the meaning of the message displayed on screen.

This incident comes at a time of rapidly escalating military tensions between Iran and the United States, following an exchange of strikes in recent hours.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced Wednesday morning that it had launched missile attacks targeting US military bases and sites in the region, using long-range solid- and liquid-fueled missiles of the Qadr, Emad, and Kheirbashkan types.

The Iranian announcement came hours after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed it had carried out strikes against targets in the Strait of Hormuz region, which it said were in response to the downing of a US military helicopter.

According to media reports, some missiles appeared to have reached the vicinity of the US Fifth Fleet’s base in Bahrain, while Kuwait announced that its air defenses had engaged “hostile targets” in its airspace.
