COOP ISLAMI, the region’s top Halal producer and retailer, announced winner of the Australian Lamb Promotion which was launched with the Meat and Livestock Australia Limited (MLA) from June 1 to 30, 2005.

Mohammed Abdualaziz, 12-year-old, was the lucky winner of a family package ticket for four members to Sydney, Australia. Mr. Hamid Badawi, Assistant General Manager, and Mustafa Jassem, Demand Manager, CO-OP ISLAMI, gave the prize to Mohammed’s father, Eng. Salah Ali Abdulaziz. The trip will feature a tour among the farms and factories that COOP ISLAMI deals with.

Mr. Salah had received a call from COOP ISLAMI informing him about the prize. He rushed home to get the coupon that he had dumped in the garbage bin a day before he knew about the prize.

The tour is aimed at spreading awareness to consumers on the measures taken by COOP ISLAMI at these factories to meet the Halal principles. COOP ISLAMI guarantees that Australian lams are free of artificial additives, naturally lean and tender and trimmed of excess fat and bone.

The company’s commitment is not limited to observing the conditions of Halal production. It goes beyond the minimum requirements to apply everything in the Islamic Rites.

Meat & Livestock Australia Limited
Meat & Livestock Australia Limited (MLA) is a producer-owned company that provides services to the entire Australian red meat industry including producers, processors, exporters, live exporters and retailers. MLA has around 30,000 livestock producer ‘members’.

MLA’s core activities are working to improve market access, building demand for Australian red meat and conducting research and development (R&D) to provide competitive advantages for the industry.

MLA is primarily funded by transaction levies paid by producers on livestock sales.  This is supplemented by cooperative contributions from individual processors, wholesalers, food service operators and retailers. Processors and live animal exporters pay levies under contract to MLA. The Commonwealth Government is a major contributor, providing dollar-for-dollar funds for money spent on R&D.
