Countdown for Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens

Published November 11th, 2010 - 07:50 GMT

HSBC is a long-standing sponsor of the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens, but this year they take on an even bigger role as the International Rugby Board tournament sees HSBC as its first ever series sponsor.

The HSBC Sevens World Series will kick off its inaugural season at 7he Sevens, in Dubai on 3rd and 4th December, and HSBC will be treating sports fans across the UAE in the build up to the main event.

Over the coming month, HSBC will be running a series of activities and promotions for customers, staff and fans across the region, in its aim to build excitement about the event, and to encourage more people to get involved with rugby.

Those at the tournament last year may recall the hugely popular HSBC Premier Suite which will be back this year – bigger and better than 2009. The 'oasis' in the desert, with refreshing complimentary drinks, luxurious cabanas and air conditioning is open each day of the Emirates Airline Dubai Sevens for all HSBC Premier customers and their guests. Customers can enjoy the facilities throughout the day when taking a break from the action on the pitch.

New this year is a special TRY Rugby Zone, attached to the HSBC Premier Suite, which will offer youngsters of all ages the chance to try their rugby skills, get their face painted and test their skills on one of the rugby themed games on offer such as the rugby coconut shy. The first 1000 youngsters who come to the area each day will also be given a free rugby ball, and there will be special signing sessions with legends from the game during the weekend.

Last year HSBC hosted two of the greatest former rugby players – Gavin Hastings and John Kirwan – and this year will once again have two genuine rugby legends in town taking part in their events and activities.

HSBC's countdown to the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens kicked off last month when 1800 children from across the UAE took part in one of the biggest grassroots rugby festivals in the region, supported by the bank. This will be continued in the coming weeks when the HSBC Penguins Coaching Academy come to the UAE and host two days of youth coaching in Deira and Dubai as well as a special coaching clinic with one of the HSBC ambassadors in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday 1st December.
