US-based Company’s First Mid-East Event Outing
Crane Aerospace & Electronics, a Crane Co. segment and a major supplier of systems and components for critical aerospace and defence applications, is officially debuting its new SmartStemTM Tire Pressure Indication System for the Middle East at the Dubai Airshow - the 10th showing for the aerospace exhibition which runs at the Airport Expo Dubai from November 11-15 2007.
The system features a wireless design which provides an easy, accurate method of maintaining proper aircraft tire pressure – very important both to aircraft safety and economics as improper tire pressure can substantially shorten tire life.
Using SmartStemTM wireless technology, the system operates by replacing the aircraft’s existing tire inflation valve stem with a wireless valve stem that senses and communicates tire pressure, temperature, and other stored information to a control unit onboard the aircraft or to a handheld reader.
The system is flight proven on Boeing’s 777, which has incorporated the SmartStemTM technology in Crane’s Tire and Brake Monitoring System on all new-production 777 aircraft since May 2007. In addition, it is currently being developed by Crane for the Brake Control and Monitoring System for the Boeing 787.
Speaking about the company making its debut at the Dubai Airshow in 2007; Kevin Wright, Group Vice President, Crane Aerospace & Electronics, said: “The Dubai Airshow has continued to strengthen at a phenomenal rate and is now one of the top three events of-its-kind in the world. The SmartStemTM Tire Pressure Indication System is also being tailored for the military market as well as the general aviation market. A significant industry agreement will be announced at the National Business Aviation Association convention in the US later this month.
Crane Aerospace & Electronics is one of 130 new-to-market exhibitors from 24 countries for the Dubai Airshow this year. Accounting for one tenth of the show’s entire exhibitor profile, it is the highest number of inaugural participants to date.

The Dubai Airshow is set to be the biggest yet, with up to 900 exhibitors expected. This year’s show has recorded a 34% increase on floor space on Dubai 2005. Future growth will be accommodated by a move to the new purpose-built site at Dubai Exhibition World in 2009, which is being built at Dubai World Central, the huge urban aviation complex currently underway at Jebel Ali, 30 kilometres outside Dubai city.
