The Croatian foreign ministry announced Friday that a 31-year-old Croatian citizen was kidnapped by a group of armed men on Wednesday in Egypt, Reuters reported.

The group forced the man to stop and abandon his car near Cairo during his commute. They seized him and drove off to an unknown location.

The man reportedly works for a French oil and gas geology company called CGG (General Geoscience), according to Croatian news portal Index.hr.

This is reportedly first known kidnapping of a Croatian citizen in a foreign country. The kidnappers have not yet requested ransom, and their motivation remains unknown. Croatian and Egyptian officials are investigating the abduction.
