The speaker of the Cuban Parliament, Ricardo Alarcon, on Tuesday urged the United States to work with the international community to find a wise response to last week's terror attacks on US cities.
"They should react in wise way," he told AFP, "Wisdom and moderation are needed to avoid complicating the situation further."
Alarcon, speaking after a meeting with his French opposite number in Paris, said Cuba recognized the United States' "right to self-defense."
But he said that Washington's response to last week's "unjustifiable" terrorist strikes should be made within the limits of international law.
"Obviously, justice must be done. But how can it be applied?" he said, "The United Nations has a role to play. Unilateral responses and actions that are not fully thought through should be avoided," he said.
Cuba has a difficult relationship with the United States, which has imposed sanctions on the island in a bid to unseat Marxist dictator Fidel Castro. It has however condemned last week's terrorist attacks on New York and Washington -- PARIS (AFP)
