Cyprus’ Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides expressed in Seville on Saturday satisfaction with the paragraph referring to his country in the conclusions of the two-day European Council, held Friday and Saturday in that Spanish city.
Kasoulides said that the 15 EU member states have briefed during Saturday’s lunch the applicant countries on the conclusions of the Summit and they stressed that the EU is determined to keep to the time-table for enlargement, according to CNA.
In addition, the minister said that the final decision as to which countries would be invited to join the EU would be made at the European Council in Copenhagen in six months' time.
This is particularly important for us since it is linked with the efforts to solve the Cyprus problem, Kasoulides conveyed. He added that according to the Seville conclusions, the solution of the Cyprus issue has to be based on the principles on which the EU was founded, CNA added.
