Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos is to depart for the United States Saturday for what officials describe as a "routine medical check-up" following surgery on his vocal chords earlier in the year.
The government has refused to disclose the exact nature of the president's condition, but Papadopoulos has been unable to speak higher than a hoarse whisper since undergoing laser surgery in March, shortly after his election a month earlier, according to AFP.
There is speculation that he may not recover the full range of his vocal capacity but there has been a noted improvement of late during public ceremonies.
Reportedly, doctors in Florida will try and bring back "more volume" to the President's voice.
According to an official announcement, Papadopoulos is due back in Cyprus on July 13. (Albawaba.com)
