Cyprus has expressed thanks to the Irish people, who by their vote, brought the enlargement of the European Union (EU) one step closer, CNA news agency said.
Remarking on the results of Saturday's referendum in Ireland, Cyprus Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said in a written statement that "one more obstacle has been overcome and the final decision to be taken in Copenhagen is now closer to us."
"We continue our efforts for accession firmly and earnestly, hoping that through our hard work and correct policy, Cyprus will soon realize its dream and become a member of the EU," he conveyed. (Albawaba.com)
