At least 21 Daesh insurgents were killed and 12 others wounded during security forces operation in the Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday, an official said.

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News security forces engaged in a clash with Daesh rebels in Momandara locality early in the morning.

He said the assailants planned attack on security forces but was foiled and scores of insurgents were killed and wounded in counter attack and airstrikes.

Bodies of rebels and weapons were captured after the clash, he said, adding civilians and security officials suffered no causalities in the clash.

Large scale offensive against militants was underway in Achin district, according to Khogyani. Daesh has not yet commented about the clash.
