Daesh announced Monday evening via its affiliated media agency that it had launched a surprise attack on the Trebil border crossing between Iraq and Jordan, Jordanian news site Khaberni reported.
“Elements of [Daesh] have attacked the artificial border between Jordan and Iraq," the statement read. “The attack consisted of light and medium weapons as well as rocket propelled grenades.” The statement adds that several Iraqi soldiers were killed and injured in the attack.
Iraqi officials have not confirmed the death toll.
The attack comes one day after Daesh claimed responsibility for the suicide attack that targeted a Jordanian military outpost near al-Rukban refugee camp on the border with Syria.
This is not the first time the Trebil border crossing has been attacked by Daesh since the group lost control of the crossing several months ago.
