Daesh kills 20 Palmyra residents at amphitheater: monitor

Daesh (ISIS) militants shot dead 20 people in Syria's ancient city of Palmyra inside an amphitheater, Reuters reported Wednesday.

Reuters said it was unable to independelty confirm with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, but the activist group reported that the extremist group executed 20 people who were accused of supporting the government in a Roman amphitheater, inviting residents to watch.

The militants had taken control of the central city last week and have already killed 200 people, holding 600 more captive, according to the Britain-based Observatory.

Palmyra, also known as Tadmor, is a 2,000-year-old city and cited as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
