Daesh militants attacked an airport in the Homs province on Monday, Reuters reported, moving west in Syria as they targeted government strongholds.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the extremists attacked a military airport in the town of Tadmur, placing more pressure on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The regime has been facing more challenges against Daesh as the group continues to make its way into government territories, including Homs, Hama and Damascus.
Observatory head Rami Abdulrahman told Reuters 74 regime soldiers had been killed by the extremist group in Hama in an attack meant to boost morale after losses against Kurdish forces.
Over 200,000 Syrians have been killed, according to the monitor, in a mix of conflict among Assad supporters and opposition fighters that include Daesh sympathizers.
