Luxury developer DAMAC Properties has announced that it will be one of the main sponsors for the Emirates Women Award 2009 which is designed to recognise and promote the success and achievements of business women across the UAE.

Now in its seventh year, the award, which is held under the Patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, provides a platform to celebrate the success of women based on both personal and professional achievements. Prospective candidates will be judged across a whole range of criteria from business acumen to leadership skills with a focus on achievements in their field to date as well as their future hopes, aspirations and ambitions.

In announcing its support for the Emirates Women Award, Chairman of DAMAC Properties, Hussain Sajwani said: ‘We are always keen to support any initiatives that highlight business success regardless of gender – but it is well known that the achievements of business women in our community often go unnoticed or overlooked.

“The award is a great way for us to celebrate together the success of businesswomen in the UAE and to officially recognise the significant input and contribution they make to the wider business community in our country.’

The award, organised by the Dubai Quality Group, is open to both UAE national and resident women, who either own their own business or are employed in professional roles. Applicants to the award will be judged against the criteria of: Leadership; Planning & Financial Performance; Career Achievements; Community Contribution and Innovation. In addition to these, there will also be overall winners selected from both the Business Owners and Professionals.

Managing Director of the Dubai Quality Group, Samia Al Yousuf, said support from companies like DAMAC Properties was critical in ensuring the award reaching a wider audience and in promoting the positive message and image of successful business and professional women in the UAE.

“We created this award to champion the achievements of business and professional women across the UAE. We also want them to act as a positive influence on others who may not be realising their full potential,’ she said.

“The support of a large company like DAMAC, that employs women in senior roles, is a great compliment to what we have tried to achieve and we are delighted that they have joined us as one of our main sponsors this year. We look forward to working with them and to finding our successful Emirates Women for 2009.’

Full details of this year’s Emirates Women Award will be unveiled at the official launch in December. An extensive and thorough judging process will then take place next spring before the winners are announced at a gala award ceremony in May.
