Damascus Radio on Tuesday reported that in spite of the Iraqi government’s announcement of its readiness to fully cooperate with the international arms inspectors and the actual setting up of inspectors work units, in coordination with the International Chief Weapon Inspector and the Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, several US officials are still “beating the drums of war and announcing plans for attacking Iraq”.

In its daily political commentary, the state-run radio, cited by SANA, said that this requires more vigilance and precaution from the Iraqi officials, to “miss the chance for those advocates of war indicating the importance of international inspectors mission to be conducted peacefully and on mutual cooperation”.

Furthermore, the Syrian radio expressed its surprise at the “advocates of war and aggression” who are using UN resolutions as pretexts to launch war against Iraq, while Israel has been violating United Nations resolutions since 1948 and no word has been heard from anybody, but rather, the US has awarded Israel in the form of further financial and military assistance to expand its aggression on the Palestinians.
