Damascus radio stressed on Tuesday that the exerted efforts to achieve a settlement on the Palestinian track through realizing the “road map” was “swinging” between US enthusiasm and Israeli statements, which give the impression that Israeli is continuing with its aggressive nature.

In its daily political commentary, the state-run radio, cited by SANA, added that the Palestinian side was giving a real chance to achieving a settlement when the Palestinian groups announced their acceptance of a truce with Israel, despite the suffering of the Palestinians due to Israel’s brutal practices and rejection of this initiative for achieving a settlement.

The radio wondered whether Israel considered the “road map” an attempt to waste time, awaiting new developments that enable it to continue its hegemony and expansion policy.

“Supposing that there is a real chance for achieving peace in the region as the American and European statements assure, shall we wait for tangible steps that put Israel in front of a real exam to uncover the Israeli readiness to achieve peace in the region,” the radio questioned.

Furthermore, the radio also wondered whether the US administration was serious in achieving peace in the region and whether its strategic ally, Israel, was ready to undertake such steps, expressing its belief that Premier Sharon and his extremist government was unable to embark upon peace.
