The upcoming Israeli-Palestinian talks with the US administration will only serve the interests of the Jewish state, two hardline Palestinian groups said Monday.
"The resumption of talks with Israel, sponsored by the US and in the context of Israeli massacres, is a betrayal of the Intifada," or uprising, said Maher Taher of the Popular Front for Liberation of Palestine's (PFLP) executive committee.
"The return to negotiations based on the old terms, which are far off from international resolutions, only serve Israel," he added.
The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) said the Palestinian Authority had "ignored the Intifada and its people" by accepting to take part in the Washington meetings.
"The patriotic forces are opposed to the resumption of negotiations on a pre-Intifada political basis," the DFLP said, calling on the Palestinian Authority to adopt a "new policy that demands the application of international resolutions."
The PFLP, DFLP and Yasser Arafat's Fateh are the main political factions of the Palestine Liberation Organization.
Israeli and Palestinian delegations are due to hold separate talks this week in Washington with the outgoing Clinton administration on a revival of the peace process, stalled since the failure of the Camp David summit in July.
In the talks' backdrop is the Intifada, in which nearly 350 people have died since violence erupted September 28 -- DAMASCUS (AFP)
