DHL transports high-powered racing vehicles worth US$1.5 million across region

Dubai, November 6, 2007: DHL, the world’s leading express and logistics provider, recently announced its continued association with the Gulf Radical Cup (GRC), the region’s premier sportscar championship.

The recent Desert 400 meeting featuring the Australian V8 Supercars is the second most prestigious car racing event after Formula One in the region. Run as a pan-Gulf race series for owners of Radical sports racing cars, the GRC is an exciting and prestigious race series that is entering its third season. Eighteen races were held over nine events, with eight of these taking place in Dubai and the remaining event in Bahrain.

The DHL Gulf Radical Cup round at the Bahrain International Circuit ended on November 3. The drivers were from a variety of origins, with nationalities including Bahraini, Emirati, Jordanian, British, French, Spanish, Irish, Dutch and Canadian.

The sponsorship by DHL enabled the transportation and clearing through border customs of 10 race cars, 100 tyres, spare parts and all of the mechanical equipment for these technically sophisticated machines, from Dubai to Bahrain and return.  The total value of entire shipment is estimated to be US$1.5 million.

Dirk Van Doorn, DHL Express Middle East Business and Product Development Manager, said: “Our partnership with the GRC demonstrates why DHL is the leader in complete express and logistics solutions. Our vast experience, knowledge and expertise guarantee that we are consistently able to deliver the premium service that DHL is renowned for.”

DHL’s tie-up with the GRC provided a comprehensive logistics service in delivering the shipments to and from Bahrain. Five DHL trucks travelled between the two countries, with DHL using its expertise to clear the shipments at the Saudi Customs border crossing.

“We offer seamless end-to-end solutions and take full ownership of such projects across the region. This partnership with the GRC ensured the timely, secure and safe delivery of the high-value sports cars to their destination as swiftly as possible,” van Doorn added.
Commenting on the partnership with DHL, Barry Hope, Managing Director for GulfSport Racing LLC said: “DHL’s track record and professional approach made us confident that the project would be completed as planned. We are delighted to continue our partnership with DHL, extending their support for last year’s event into 2007.”
