In its continuous effort to lead business excellence across the municipal system in the emirate of Abu Dhabi and enhance bilateral relationships with international government and business partners, the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) attended the European Foundation for Quality Management Forum 2009 – The Power of a Connected World in Brussels.

The delegation visited EFQM Headquarters and met with Pierre Cachet, CEO of EFQM, to discuss future relationship prospects. DMA and its leadership were recognised for their commitment to driving business excellence across the municipal system. DMA, now an active member of the EFQM body, has agreed to engage in a two year action plan for Abu Dhabi’s municipal system focussing on coaching, training, benchmarking and deployment of recognition programmes for the higher management across the municipal system. At the forum, the team was introduced to new practices of Business Excellence from quality management and technical operations perspective.

Commenting on the forum, His Excellency, Mohamed Al Dhaheri, Executive Director, Support Services, Department of Municipal Affairs said, “Attending the EFQM 2009 falls in line with His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s vision to adapt excellence tools and techniques as the most reliable methodologies that will enable us to raise the standards of Abu Dhabi Government.

“EFQM 2009 was the right place to network with the right people from other leading nations. We had the opportunity to establish business linkages and government to government partnerships. We are delighted to receive recognition from EFQM for our efforts thus far; this acts as a motivation for us to keep soaring through on our journey towards excellence.”

This year’s EFQM forum explored the power of the connected world and its impact on organisations from the supply base to its integral supply chain. World class CEOs from companies such as BMW, Bosch, EDF, Ricoh, Philips and others presented best practice examples and case studies to gain further insight and exchange views.

“These visits are fundamental to our aim of offering consistently high quality service across Abu Dhabi emirate. We are continually working to go a step further with our certification programmes. Our next aim is to secure ISO 14001 for Environmental Management System and ISO 18001 for Occupational Health and Safety,” adds Al Dhaheri.
