The Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department (DNRD) is organizing IT skills training program for its employees to enable them to obtain ICDL (International Computer Driving License) certification. The move is in keeping with DNRD’s strategic initiative to equip its employees with computer skills and help realize the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Defence Minister and Dubai Crown Prince, to raise the competence level of government departments in Dubai.

“The widespread use of computers and the adoption of the latest technologies in different government departments in Dubai, especially after the launch of Dubai eGovernment, have made it imperative that employees are IT proficient. The training sessions were organized with this objective in mind,” said Brigadier Saeed bin Belailah, Director, DNRD. “We are committed to keep pace with the latest technological developments to provide services of the highest quality to our clients.By equipping our workforce with essential computer skills, DNRD will be able to expedite processes and deliver faster service to customers, raising the customer satisfaction index in the process.”

Lieutenant Khalfan Khamis Al Shamsi, Head of Planning and Development, DNRD said, “So far, 330 DNRD employees have received ICDL certification since the launch of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s IT Education Program. The ongoing training sessions are designed to bring a larger section of employees within this program. A total of 159 employees have been enrolled in nine training sessions, which were organized specifically to enable them to obtain ICDL certification.”

The training sessions are held at four different locations, with each of the 9 sessions extending to a period of six weeks. While 98 employees have been enrolled in the four sessions being held at the DNRD headquarters, 19 employees have enrolled for two sessions at the Dubai Airport Free Zone, with another 21 employees taking part in the session being held at the Dubai airport.

DNRD has devised an integrated strategic plan extending over two years to provide IT skills training to all employees of the Department. This project comes in line with the strategic approach of the Emirate of Dubai to move towards a digital economy and realize the objective of a knowledge-based society by developing the competence of government department employees and refining their skills, leading to increased efficiency and improved customer service.
