At least seven Iraqis, including both policemen and civilians, were killed on Tuesday when two bombs exploded outside a music store in a crowded market in the Bab Al Sharjee area of Baghdad.
One bomb had detonated initially, prompting people to rush to the scene to help the wounded, at which point a second bomb exploded. Such a technique has been used frequently to injure as many people as possible.
Some 23 others were wounded as well in the succession of bombs, according to Reuters.
Similar attacks have taken the lives of numerous others in Bab Al Sharjee in the past.
Also on Tuesday, US military sources revealed that four American marines were killed in Iraq by roadside bombs in the past two days.
Three of soldiers were killed on Monday in the Iraqi town of Hit, according to Reuters, while another was apparently killed on Tuesday in the same area.
Two Iraqi civilians were also killed by roadside bombs on Tuesday as they drove in their car in southern Baghdad, according to the AP. It is unclear whether or not the two were the intended targets of the attack.
The US military considers such bombs, which it calls an "improvised explosive device" or "IED", the most lethal weapon used by resistance fighters in Iraq. Many of the IEDs are homemade.
On Monday, the US Pentagon announced that it was drastically increasing its military budget in the fight against the use of IEDs.
More than 2,252 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the 2003 invasion of the country by US led forces.
