Drake & Scull International (DSI), one of the leading mechanical and electrical engineering contractors in the Middle East, has completed construction of its prestigious 60,000 TR (tonnes of refrigeration) chilled water plant and distribution system at the Jumeirah Beach Residences, one of the world’s largest single-phase residential and commercial projects.
Amro Samkary, Project Manager for the Jumeirah Beach Residence District Cooling Plant said: “Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has thrown the switch and power is now available, allowing Drake & Scull to bring the newly-constructed plant on-line and start producing chilled water. We are very excited and pleased to be able to move forward and start the final phase of the project in bringing one of the largest district cooling plants in the world to a successful conclusion.”
The completion of the plant’s construction marks a significant milestone for the Jumeirah Beach Residence project as a whole, as it ensures the distribution of chilled water particularly at a time when the region is heading into summer and temperatures are beginning to rise.
The new plant will produce and supply chilled water for the refrigeration system in the 40 freehold residential and hotel tower blocks that comprise the Jumeirah Beach Residence project being built over a 1.7 km area at an approximate cost of AED 6 billion by Dubai Properties.
“Drake & Scull has succeeded in bringing the plant on-line within the stipulated schedule and without any delays to third parties, despite its very demanding programme. Our project team was able to achieve this with the close cooperation of our client, Dubai Properties; project managers Mace International and building services consultants, Hyder Consulting Middle East and we are grateful for their support,” Samkary added.
Drake & Scull has been providing quality engineering services in the region since its inception in 1964.
