Demonstrating yet again its place as a leader in developing innovative customer interfaces, du has won three top-class awards in the telecommunication services category at the UAE Web Awards Competition 2009. du’s Ramadan promotional website, www.hekayat.ae, won first prize under the Telecommunication Services category, while second place went to du’s More Talk More Music campaign website, www.moretalkmoremusic.ae, and third was awarded to the du Entertainment Portal http://content.du.ae/.

The UAE Web Awards Competition, presented by The Pan Arab Web Awards Academy, was created in order to recognise excellence in web design, development and web ownership skills in the region, and to showcase this creativity in a competition for the best website in the United Arab Emirates. The awards aim to reward creators for their skills and encourage further development, and also to serve as an inspiration and precedent for future players in the field.

du’s three winning websites were recognised for supplying customers with an easy-to-use interface that includes information about offers and plans, and for providing a platform for customers to interact in many ways, including generating lyrics and writing stories.

“du is always committed to providing quality and innovative products and services to its customers. These websites are designed to create a competitive yet enjoyable platform with a user-friendly interface. We are extremely grateful to the design team who worked tirelessly with us to make these websites such a success,” commented Hala Badri, EVP Brand and Communications, du.

du’s Hekayat website, which won the first prize, was launched during Ramadan as part of a competition in which participants share their stories on the site. The site featured an interactive mixture of video animations, flash and HTML, as well as a simple voting and submission mechanism. The final result was an attractive site which showcases the book and allows users to read the stories as a series of montages that make up a paper cloud.

In second place, du’s More Talk More Music was launched for DJs to enter a competition by sharing their own music tracks with du via the website. This site, took the concept of user interaction a step further by not only relying on user-generated content, but also incorporating social networking. Users were invited to Abu Dhabi Mall and Mall of the Emirates to mix songs – using professional DJ equipment – which were then uploaded to the website where users could invite their friends and vote for the songs. Users could also log straight in from their Facebook accounts and post comments on the site directly, with the best/most voted for song each week winning a BlackBerry phone.

Both du’s Hekayat and More Talk More Music sites were recognised for the level of customer engagement offered, providing an active tool to draw users to the sites by either tying in with social networking sites, such as Facebook, or relying on user-generated content.

Last but not least, du also swept up the third prize for its Entertainment Portal. This website provides a vast library, in collaboration with Rotana, from which to download songs and other entertainment features.
